Wednesday Writing Workout: Reading Is Writing
I just returned from teaching my first class of the semester and told my students, as I always do, "reading is writing." I'm not sure they believe me, but it's probably the most important piece of advice (besides "butt in chair") that I'll give them all semester.
Given the flurry of exciting awards news in children's publishing this week, many of us will be applying this advice to the list of ALA Youth Media Award-winning books.
I'm planning to start with Three Times Lucky, by Sheila Turnage, which has been sitting on my Kindle for many months. How about you?
Happy reading! --Jeanne Marie

I was catching up on my ALA award winners too, and am having a hard time with "Three Times Lucky." It started with a quirky-small-town vibe, and that is not my favorite thing. I'll be curious to see how others feel about the book.
ReplyDeleteI just ordered the audio for Three Times Lucky from my library, so I'll get back to you when I finish it. Thanks! I do learn something each time I read, sometimes it's terrific!
ReplyDeleteI've been comparing the ALA list to the Cybils list (doing a first line post for next week using Cybil nominees.)
ReplyDeleteThe one that jumped out at me was Bomb which won 3 ALA awards and is also a Cybil nominee. I'll be adding that to my readin list immediately.
I started with THE ONE AND ONLY IVAN and blogged my delight. I've moved on to A DOG CALLED HOMELESS. I love my homework!
